Amelia Leyden has worked as a Lawyer since 2009. She is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law and the Principal Lawyer at Chapter Lawyers.
Before starting Chapter Lawyers, Amelia was a Senior Associate at a boutique firm in outer-Eastern Melbourne. Working extensively in Family Law and also in a broad range of other areas for over 13 years. After realising that Family Law was her ‘thing’, Amelia wanted to bolster her legal knowledge. This has helped clients quickly understand their options and make informed decisions. In 2021, Amelia passed all three Law Institute of Victoria’s notoriously difficult exams and became an Accredited Specialist in Family Law.
What is an “Accredited Specialist”?
The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) run an assessment program which is highly-regarded by the legal industry. After practicing Law for at least 5 years, a Lawyer can choose to participate in the LIV’s Accreditation program, which involve studying the long list of Court cases, legislation and legal commentary. The Lawyer must pass the LIV’s three separate exams, which for Family Law, are
- usually drafting a letter of advice and Court documents
- a 3.5 hour written exam
- a 1-hour simulated interview with a paid actor posing as your client
